Bruce Jones, owner of Jones Collision located at 11301 E. 7 Mile in Detroit, Michigan lives only half a block away and is known for his heroism through his grandson and the neighbors who span across Beland Street. The neighbors depend on him to watch over their street by night as Mr. Jones tends to perfecting his as well as several of the neighbors’ lawns during the late evening hours, or works at the shop repairing and painting vehicles.
Many days he employs those in the area to perform simple jobs so that they can afford a meal t for the day. Mr. Jones does everything he can with what he has and shares it with his neighbors. He is friendly to all, disarming even the most violent personalities, disarmed by the disposition he has because of his professed faith and his choice to follow the life of Christ.
Late at night when he is working on a car with the doors to the shop shut tight, you might hear someone talking. If you listen closely, you can hear Mr. Jones listening to an orator providing a dramatic reading of scripture. Inspired by those readings, he celebrates by listening to Gospel music filling the shop with what he imagines as God’s throne room filled with an angelic choir where he and his God Almighty are the audience.
Mr. Jones cares deeply for his neighbors and prays for them throughout the day that they learn and see what he can, and that they stay safe from all the evil that surrounds the community, not to mention all the gun shots one can hear on a daily basis, a warzone he calls home.
When a new BEZ is established the Sponsor, aka Business Owner at that location submits a list of probable businesses that could be located within their enterprise zone. That list is used to pair up kids/students with that list and an application is sent to H 2 E to be evaluated and approved for consideration and funding. Once approved, if funding is required it then is sent to Smart Founders where they put together a business plan and proforma and present it to AEON Hydra for a funding request. Once approved the business is created, funded, and started. If funding is not required and has been funded through other sources the business plan and proforma are still required. After the plan and proforma is approved by H 2 E the business is established and started.
7 Mile is an all residential commercial business as well as Outer Drive. It is all industrial on the north side of State Fair and is also on the back side of those properties. Yet it is all residential on the south side of State Fair. Many of the commercial spaces are either vacant or have not been used since the start of the pandemic. Most of the commercial spaces need a lot of work and are in a very poor condition.
In the residential area there are many burnt and vacant homes, as well as vacant property which is either not being used or not being taken care of vigilantly. Almost every house requires some major repair, but due to lack of sufficient funds or negligence of the landlord, the owner who lives there is only able to cater to the repair when he receives a grant to pay for it, or else the home may be made uninhabitable. The homeowner might also try to stay there until the house burns down or requires demolition. The alleys have been abandoned and are like a thick jungle with very tall weeds and bushes growing out of control due to being overlooked for over two decades. The alleys are filled with debris and are home to wildlife, including large rats and other rodents along with those that prey on them. They tend to share shelter from time to time in the vacant homes where they infest and destroy areas in the house making it a dangerous place to walk through. It becomes fatal to the point that it may require demolition.
