About Hero's

Hero’s in the Hood is a Management Company incorporated as, The Hero’s in the Hood Enterprises LLC. This Management Company shall manage the establishments of Regions and Business Enterprise Zones in major urban areas in the USA and around the world. H 2 E has established its first Region H 2 -Detroit, and within H 2 -Detroit, its first Business Enterprise Zone, Beland-7 at 11301 E. 7 Mile, known as Jones Collision. At this BEZ, the first of 20 BEZ’s in Detroit, there shall be at least 20 new businesses set up.

The Mission

The Mission of Hero’s in the Hood is to bring the “neighbor” back to “hood”. H 2 aims of doing that by creating opportunities for those 12-21 and teach them how to live, work and thrive in their neighborhood in such a way as to be recognized as the Hero of their Neighborhood. It will be achieved by helping those who cannot take care of themselves and striving each day to promote a clean and safe environment to live in. The final goal is to see the Business, the City, the Schools, the County, the State, the Churches, and Community Organizations work together to help create opportunities for the children of the neighborhood to live, thrive, and safely prosper in for the benefit of all with a faith that has given purpose, passion, and a strong sense of identity and self-worth giving way to a sustainable prosperous future for all involved.

The Original Hero

Bruce Jones is the neighborhood’s trusted friend, “Hero in the Hood” and is the trading master. Michael Relph brings in the support of administration, labor force when required, financial management, setup of each business and chief mentor of all the mentors who become part of the effort. Each Enterprise Zone shall have its own financial portfolio and its own grant funding to work from. Each enterprise zone shall seek a partner to help finance the grant, and basic startup funds of $20,000 with a payback or percentage interest or a combination of each. Grants for each enterprise zone will be applied on an on-going basis to expand the zone until the entire zone is complete and that every soul aims of trying to reach for Christ.

Making Hero’s From Within

Hero’s in the Hood in any region works to partner with a local business enterprise who is the heart and soul of its community. The business owner must wish to be an integral part of improving their community and help bring Neighbor back in Hood by sponsoring up to 20 new businesses the children can work for.

The children are taught life-skills, skills for the business they will take on, and skills to run the business not to mention basic civics and how to care for neighbors in the immediate area of the business.

They are given a mentor from the League of Hero’s with whom the youth works, plans and sets up a business enterprise where the owner evaluates their performance.

When the youth begins helping their community and contributes positively, they are acknowledged and appreciated on website and social media platforms. Similar to the boy scouts, once they reach the hero status, a press release is sent out to all the major local media outlets of their accomplishment.

Identifying a New Business Mentor- New Member of LEH

A Business Mentor or member of the LEH is generally an expert of one or more types of businesses which is a part of this urban business culture. The potential member is either referred by another organization or hears or finds out about our efforts and applies via the website.

The prospective candidate is interviewed and if accepted, it is matched with a student/child in the hood and from there they begin to work together on the plan of their new business. Once the business is funded, the mentor works with the student to help him start the operation. The mentor may want to help raise funds for the business or invest directly. This will all come out in the application to get involved.

Identifying and Funding a New Business Enterprise Zone

The process of identifying a new H 2 BEZ starts through referral or self-appointment. You can do that via this website by filling an application and submitting it to the H 2 Region. Anyone can apply. The Region and local H 2 BEZ shall review, interview, qualify, and quantify each application. Once approved the new zone is established through the process of acquiring funding and finding the first business enterprise, and a potential community center for the children to work at.

The Funding Model for each H 2 BEZ comes from non-profit setups, startup-funding from grants, loans such as the SBA 7(a) Loan Program, Angel Investors, and Hedge Funds. New funding sources are created often, so each enterprise zone maybe created differently. In each case an enterprise zone will work to completely refurbish a neighborhood on both sides of the street where the sponsor business is located. In case of its location being on the main road, it will serve as the headquarters for that zone.

Identifying a New Youth Community Center and Its Role

Each BEZ shall establish a community center for daycare, early child development, training for each youth worker, and an event center. It will become the hub of activity for a safe place for all to include community health and wellness. With the advent of the 2020 pandemic in the city of Detroit there are 100’s of little churches now vacant or only used on Sunday morning.

Community Impact

The Pilot Region & Enterprise Zone

Bruce Jones, the original Hero in the Hood, a phrase coined by his 5 year old grandson is the 28+ year owner of Jones Collison located at 11301 E. Seven Mile, Detroit, Michigan. With all the right skills and capability, he alone has the manpower to help create over 20 types of businesses that the youth can work at with the tools already available in his shop.

Bruce has been part of his community his entire life and owns several homes on one of the two blocks, including the pilot program. The pilot program aims to create 20+ businesses, and improve the properties to include curb appeal, and the overall structure of each home on Beland and Teppert from 7 Mile and State Fair (7 ½ Mile Road) and to include the facility that Jones Collison is housed in.

Total estimated investment required will be about $5M and can roll the profit to fund another enterprise zone similar to the pilot. This first Business Enterprise Zone known as Beland-7. Jones Collision Business Enterprise Zone once funded looks to facilitate the rebirth of each property on both streets by building new homes where there is a vacant property, tearing down a home that is not repairable and building new, fixing a home that is vacant and repairable, and for the homes occupied help fix the obvious things on the outside of the home to include things like Roofs, Windows, Doors, and Concrete. Each property will receive new lawns and landscape. Each property will have their lawns carefully manicured in the summer, and sidewalks cleared of all snow and ice for 2 full years. Water, fertilizer, and flowers will all be paid for by the grant. A homeowner’s association will be formed where homeowners will receive substantial benefits for being an active member.

Out of the Collision Shop no less than 20 new businesses will be created and designed for youth to work a business and in 2-4 years be able to own it for themselves. Each business shall have a mentor or an expert in that type of business to help the youth(s) start and grow the business. In total 1,000 new jobs would be created in order to employ as many youths who are willing to put in an honest day’s work. This being a Christ-Centered operation, each youth will be introduced to how God expects them to live through the example of the mentor giving each student a purpose and code of conduct to live by. In total we look to create 20 Inner Urban Enterprise Zones throughout Detroit creating at least 400 new businesses and 20,000 jobs all meant for youth that are 12-21 years old living in “The Hood.”
